One of the reasons I decided to live in Norway was because of the country’s natural beauty. I love the mountains, the rivers, and the fjords. Norway is called the land of the midnight sun and the land of Aurora (Northern Lights).
I have taken the “Norway in a Nutshell” fjord trip with my family twice. Both times, the tour was truly mesmerizing. I would recommend it to anyone who visits Norway. It gives you a lifetime opportunity to experience Norway’s beautiful fjords and get closer to nature.
We took an early morning train from Oslo to Myrdal. At Myrdal, we changed into the Flåm railway. It is one of the steepest train lines in the world, where almost 80% of the journey has a gradient of 5.5%. The train journey was spectacular. It offered a panoramic view of some of the wildest and most magnificent nature in the Norwegian fjord landscape. On the way to Flåm, the train halted in front of a huge waterfall called Kjosfossen. To our amusement, a woman dressed in a Norwegian traditional costume called “Bunad” appeared and started singing and dancing in front of the waterfall.
Flåm is a beautiful village located in the municipality of Aurland in Sogn Og Fjordane county. Even though it is a tiny place, there are a lot of activities to do there, such as renting a bike and exploring the unspoiled nature. Other activities include visiting the Flåm museum and souvenir shops, munching something in the cozy cafes, or relaxing in front of a beautiful view.
After about an hour in Flåm, our journey continued, and this time it was on a Fjord cruise. A fairytale view followed us everywhere, each sight more wonderful than the other. The cruise trip lasted for two hours, and it was the most scenic part of the whole trip.
We then reached Gudvangen, and a bus was waiting for us to take us to Voss. It was like a roller coaster ride with the roads twisting and turning down. Some parts were steep. We reached Voss in no time, and the final part of our journey had begun on the Bergen railway. The entire trip lasted for around twelve hours, but I was glad that it was summer and we still had long days. So, it was still bright when we reached Bergen.
I feel that words can’t do justice to the beauty of the tour, and yes, I made sure to take a lot of pictures ;)
