Remember when a fresh new year is about to unfold? It often starts with a bang, such as watching the fireworks when the clock strikes 12 or meeting family and friends for a small celebration. Many people make new years resolutions, which often get forgotten as the days and months unfold, and we get busy in our day-to-day activities. Even so, most people look forward to January 1st. What makes it so significant? Well, a fresh new year is a new beginning. A new year is like an unwritten new book, where each month represents a new chapter, and it’s up to us how we write the upcoming 12 chapters of our life.

Sometimes, we feel stuck due to various reasons. It could be because things are not going as we wanted, and we are unsure of a way out. So, here are four things to do that have helped me to make a fresh start when I am stuck:

1) Reflect

Reflection brings things to perspective. Look back on all your personal and professional goals which you had set and achieved. You will feel a sense of victory ticking off the things you accomplished. You can recall all the positive experiences you had which gave you joy. Think of any challenges you faced which allowed you to learn and grow into a better person.

2) Celebrate

There are highs and lows in everyone’s lives, but what matters is your attitude towards them. Make sure to celebrate all your wins. It will give you the confidence to achieve even greater heights. Also, find time for relaxation, rejuvenation, and spending quality time with family and friends.

3) Set new goals

Life is all about growth. Being in the comfort zone is easy but dull. If we don’t stretch outside our comfort zone, we don’t grow. Set goals that are challenging but realistic. It can be as simple as being consciously happy, eating healthy food, waking up early, learning a new sport, trying a new musical instrument, or reading more books. Write them down somewhere where you can look at them once in a while. Then take action to make them come true. Goal setting keeps us inspired and focused and gives us joy when accomplished.

4) Spread happiness

The more you give, the better you will feel about yourself. Most importantly, give your time to the people who matter the most to you. It’s the most precious gift that you can ever give to anyone.
